WIR HÄTTEN EINEN TRAUM VOLLBRACHT
„...if you have never spent whole afternoons forgetting the world around you over a book, forgetting cold and hunger— if you have never wept bitter tears because a wonderful story has come to an end and you must take your leave of the characters with whom you have shared so many adventures, whom you have loved and admired, for whom you have hoped and feared, and without whose company life seems empty and meaningless - you probably won’t understand what Bastian did next.”
[Michael Ende, Neverending Story]

Melinda Sue Pacho I Did Not Die.

Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

Jack Gilbert How to love the dead

she lives, the bird says, and means nothing
silly. She is dead and available,
the fox says, knowing about the spirits.
not the picture of the funeral,
not the obect of grieving. She is dead
and you can have that, he says. If you can
love without politeness or delicacy
the fox says, love her with your wolf heart,
as the dead are to be desired.
Not the way long marriages are,
nothing happening again and again,
Not in the woods or in the fields.
Not in the cities. The painful love of being
permanently unhoused. not color, but the stain.

"You know that point in your life when you realize that the house that you grew up in isn't really your home anymore?
All of the sudden even though you have some place where you can put your stuff that idea of home is gone. [...]
You'll see when you move out it just sort of happens one day one day and it's just gone. And you can never get it back.
It's like you get homesick for a place that doesn't exist. I mean it's like this rite of passage, you know. You won't have this feeling again until you create a new idea of home for yourself, you know, for your kids, for the family you start, it's like a cycle or something.
I miss the idea of it.
Maybe that's all family really is. A group of people who miss the same imaginary place."

Title: The Murder at Missel Hall
Author: Rosie_Rues
Pairing: Gen
Spoilers: The author doesn't warn, so I think there's no need for a spoiler warning
Summary:
"Well, I'm relieved at least," Christopher said blithely. "Lying to Flavian always makes me feel like I've kicked a puppy."
"I notice that doesn't stop you," said Millie, clutching her hat as the carriage bumped over a pothole. She was dressed in her smartest, and looked as little like an enchanter as it was possible to look.
"Duty over conscience, my dear," Christopher said loftily. "I must suffer for our cause."

Conrad's POV, his perspective on Christopher, Millie, Elizabeth and the others is most wonderful (I adore the way he talks about Christopher, ah &hearts!)
This one could be canon, wonderfully done! I adore it! The plot as much as the interactions between the characters (which are spot on! Christopher is insufferable, Millie is adorable and so on, I also loved reading more about Elizabeth and it's wonderful to see her falling in love) are wonderful, I loved every word of it. If you love DWJ's Chrestomanci series, you'll like this!

3. If the character/rune/pairing/... is taken, you can't choose them, sorry.

If you see this, post a poem in your own LJ.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

And time writes its lines upon your face

Summary: Gaila hates the word 'whore.' Luckily, so does someone else.

Lovely, lovely, lovely character piece. I can't say any more because that would spoil the fun of reading this short but brilliant ficlet. I fell in love with Gaila.

Summary: Gaila hard and cynical, unwilling to trust. The person I imagine she was not long after her escape.

Oh, just continuing the Gaila love here, really. This is as faboulous as the first one but with much more - as resa called it "Orion politics" - and more insight into Gaila's character aswell as her past. And Sulu is a a proper - charming - gentleman.

Most of you have been where I am tonight. The crash site of unrequited love. You ask yourself, How did I get here? What was it about? Was it her smile? Was it the way she crossed her legs, the turn of her ankle, the poignant vulnerability of her slender wrists? What are these elusive and ephemeral things that ignite passion in the human heart? That's an age-old question. It's perfect food for thought on a bright midsummer's night.

Summary:
At seventeen, Tezuka understood many things. He knew what his feelings for Fuji were and what they meant. And he knew unspoken, unrequitted feelings were supposed to hurt, but it didn't work for him that way.

Since it's a really short story any other excerpt would give too much away and that would spoil the fun.
What immediately springs to my mind when I think about this story is the intimacy and the sensibility that comes across. This story has everything I love about Fuji and Tezuka. It perfectly describes that the way they complement like no one else can.

"Was willst du mir eigentlich erzählen?

I dream about an ice field.
I can feel the ice. I can hear a voice echoing.
Like it's going to crush me. Like it's going to swallow me.
Reverberating far away, like thunder.
I can hear a voice.
It's ike it's going to crush me, like it's going to swallow me.
Reverberating far away, like thunder.
It brushes against my hand, like a flower.
I can hear a voice echoing.
Like it's going to crush me. Like it's going to swallow me.
It falls into my hand, like thunder.
I can hear a voice.
It reverberates far away and nearby.
I decided to look for it. And press on.
Even if I die on this ice field

...REC IN THE EVENING.

O just have to, this thing is brilliant, really interesting and it touches me because Edward Elric is one of the few fictional characters I kinda look up to. (The only other that springs to my mind at this moment would be Watanuki.)

Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist/Harry Potter Crossover
Title: Mr. Elric
Author: maboroshi-hime
Genre: General
Rating: G
Spoilers: FMA episode 51; HP book 5
Summary: Edward Elric from various points of view.

He began babbling about how the pain 'wasn't as bad as the first time around' and that 'Winry did a great job the first time around, but when I crossed the gate, the entire arm got lost and we had to redo it' and nonsense. He spoke of a little brother and growled out something about a horse (mustang, was it?). Eventually, his speech lost all coherency and the remaining work was done in silence.

Very short chapters, wonderfully written and as canon as a crossover can be IMHO. (I can see the Harry Potter characters seeing Edward in the various ways they do.)
And yes, the horse = Roy thing just got me ;)
